1970 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Cherry Sunburst

"Les Paul Deluxe.... the original Gold finished top with natural Mahogany sides and back. *Also available in Cherry Sunburst finish! With Humbucking pickups ..... $495" -- From the 1971 Gibson price list. Gibson's Les Paul Deluxe debuted in 1970 with mini humbucking pickups and a gold finished top. The Cherry Sunburst finish option doesn't appear in the price lists until some time in 1971.

Year: c.1970. Potentiometer codes: 1376648 indicating having been made in the 48th week of 1966. Serial 776xxx with MADE IN USA stamp, small volute, transitional neck tenon. This serial number range was applied to Gibson guitars from 1970-1972. This guitar exhibits early features hinting at 1970 but it could also have been made in 1971 or '72. 

Specifications: Single cutaway Les Paul style body with three piece Maple cap top, pancake body, Mahogany neck with small volute, Rosewood fretboard, two mini humbucking pickups with patent stickers, transitional neck tenon. 9lbs 3oz. Nut width = 1 44/64" actual (1 11/16"), .78" neck depth at first fret, 1.02" depth at 12th fret.

Originality: All parts original except the strings!

Condition: Excellent! No breaks or repairs. No finish checking. The plastic output jack plate has a broken corner. There is some light finish rash on the bottom edge of the body near the end pin. 

Playability: Excellent! It’s a dream to play. The neck is straight and the frets are full height without excessive player wear. The neck set is good and the truss rod is fully adjustable. 

Notes: This is the earliest made Cherry Sunburst Les Paul Deluxe I've ever seen! Not only that, it's also the lightest post-1960 single cut Les Paul I've weighed. Oh, and it's also the cleanest with the most case candy. This is a no excuses, ready to play or collect vintage Gibson Les Paul! I'm confident you will love it.
