The Story

“MELODY MAKER: Greatest value ever in a Solid Body electric with full sized neck and scale length. Acclaimed by players, teachers, and students for its fine sound, big tone, sensitive pickup, feather-light touch. Beautiful Fire Engine Red or Pelham Blue finish, Gibson Vibrola.” — Gibson catalog, 1967

Make and Model: Gibson Melody Maker D

Year: 1967. “00xxxx” serial, potentiometer code “13767xx” (1967, some numbers obscured by solder)

Specifications: 24 3/4″ scale length, 6lbs 11 oz, 1 9/16″ nut width, .80″ neck depth at the first fret, 1″ depth at the 12th fret. 7.2 kΩ neck pickup, 7.0 kΩ bridge pickup.

Originality: Appears to be original except for replaced tuners with Grovers and a replacement tremolo arm.

Condition: Good, no breaks or repairs. The original Fire Engine Red finish is nice but has a few spots of red touch up (about 1/4″ diameter). The case is very rough and has duct tape throughout.

Playability: Excellent. There is minimal fret wear, the neck is straight with a properly function truss rod, all electronics have been cleaned and lubricated. This is a really fun guitar to play!

Notes: This vibey ’67 Melody Maker D is ready to play! The Fire Engine Red color seems to be a lot less common than Sparkling Burgundy and is a very cool looking finish. I’m always surprised at how full the neck profile feels on these Melody Makers. It’s clear when you play it that this is more than a student guitar. I’m confident you’ll love this 1967 Melody Maker D in Fire Engine Red Finish!
