The Story

Fender's Jaguar model debuted in 1962 as the fourth professional grade solid body electric guitar from Fender after the Telecaster, Stratocaster, and Jazzmaster. It was the top of the line at the time with all the improved Fender features including a 24" scale length neck, Fender first "Fender Mute" bridge mute, switchable rhythm circuit preset, bright switch (bass cut), and newly designed shielded single coil pickups. The model received neck binding in late 1965 and large block style pearl inlays in late 1966.

Make and Model: Fender Jaguar

Year: 1966. Serial 168xxx, neck stamp 1 SEP 66, potentiometer codes indicating the 31st week of 1966. Check out all the interior pictures here:

Specifications: Total weight with bridge cover = 9lbs 2oz, nut width = 1 5/8", neck depth at the first fret = .87", 12th fret = .87".

Originality: All parts are original to the guitar except the strings and the pickup height foam/bridge mute foam (originals in the case). I've found no evidence of modifications or repairs.

Condition: Excellent! The original Sunburst finish is the cleanest I've ever seen. There's almost no evidence of playing wear on the frets. There is some checking on the neck and a small spot of finish flaking next to the E string tuner.

Playability: Excellent! The neck is perfectly straight and the frets still have their full height. I've set it up with a fresh set of .011" gauge strings and a 1 degree taper shim from Stew Mac which spans the full length of the neck pocket. All factory foam and neck shims are included.

Notes: This clean '66 Jaguar has just recently emerged from the original owner's basement! He must have upgraded to this Jaguar from his 1956 Danelectro U-2 but kept both guitars. I was very happy to acquire both in as found condition. Both guitars are nice but this Jaguar was extremely well preserved and still has its original hang tag with matching serial number, Fender branded polishing cloth, Allen wrench for bridge adjustment, and hardshell case in very nice condition. It even had the orange silk wrapped flat wound strings that were likely installed in the late 60s or early 70s. It's now in excellent playing condition. I'm confident you'll love this clean '66 Fender Jaguar!
