The Story

This 1954 Gibson Les Paul Model goldtop has just come in from the family of its original owner! It still had the silk wrapped ball end flat wound strings on it when I received. It's a fine example with no breaks or repairs and has its original brown and pink Lifton case.

Make and Model: Gibson Les Paul Model

Year: 1954. Serial number "4_2xxx". Potentiometer code "134 322" where 134 = Centralab, 3 = 1953, 22 = 22nd week of the year.

Measurements: 9lbs 4oz total weight. Neck profile (depth at the first fret) = .92", depth at 12th = 1.02"

Originality: All parts and finish are factory original except the output jack plate. All solder is undisturbed. All the cool original small parts like the thin pickup selector switch nut and plastic poker chip ring are still on this beauty.

Playability: Excellent! This killer goldtop has a straight neck, proper working truss rod with plenty of threads available, great original frets with minimal wear. All electronics have been cleaned and are in great working condition.

Condition: Very good. The gold top finish exhibits typical checking and oxidation. The headstock has a cigarette burn between the E and A tuner posts (this guitar does not smell smoky or musty).

Case: Missing its handle. The strap that keeps the lid from opening too far has ripped of but is with the case to be reattached if necessary.

Notes: I'm thrilled to offer another fabulous uncirculated 1950s Goldtop. The family was not very inclined to sell even though they didn't play the guitar. I could tell it was a special family heirloom and that they took great pride in owning it. My offers to buy fell on deaf ears, so I decided I had to pay whatever they wanted in order to get it. I'm so happy that I did, because after the light cleaning and set up, it's an incredibly inspiring guitar. I'm confident you'll love this killer wrap tail Goldtop!
